STORYBOOK SUNDAY: If I Didn't Have You by Alan Katz, Illustrated by Chris Robertson

HI guys and gals!
Welcome back to Satisfaction for Insatiable Readers.

We're celebrating another day of bookish fun with Storybook Sunday! For those not up to speed on the post, I read a lot of great storybooks and thought, why not give them their own day in the sun. Hence, Storybook Sunday! Feel free to join the fun and create a post on your own site with the same name. I'd love to see any linked up in the comments! Anywho...back to the matter at hand.

Today, we're shining the spotlight on a title that celebrate the importance of family and all the love they bring.  True, they can drive us bonkers, maybe even have us contemplating life without them in our hair, but we wouldn't trade them for the world, even if the world offered a sweetheart of a deal.  So, bring your loved ones in for a squeeze and settle back as we explore today's storybook gem...

Once upon a time, there was only a she and a he...until their love created a wee, one that is...and things changed; whether for the better or for the worst is all a matter of perspective, though there's no doubt in this dad's mind that he got the better end of the deal.  The story goes on to explore all the fun that could be had by both dad (as a non-dad) and son if one or the other wasn't in the picture.  We've got dreams of butler-ed living, all the candy one could eat, and no one to make you brush your teeth, versus striped sports cars, sky-diving, and rock star dreams...but in the end, it's clear to all that the dream of all dreams is the one they are living, as a family.  At least, until mom comes home to a mess...uh-oh!

You'll find yourself chuckling as their solo dreams come to life in full color displays that dazzle the eye and warm the heart.  All the animals that the son would adopt if he had no limit.  The days he'd spend in bed WITHOUT cleaning his room if he didn't have to go to school.  The candy he'd eat if no one could stop him.  All these scenarios and more play out in vivid illustrations the will delight readers young and young at heart.

About the illustrator...

Chris Robertson is just a big kid at heart who writes and draws Children's Picture Books.  Chris's whimsical cartoon style feels light-hearted and carefree which seems to perfectly match his humorous writing style. He lives in Pasadena with his wife and three boys.

(I can attest to the whimsical and light-hearted comments there, as I've read works with his illustrations before!  Check here, here, and here for more creatively rendered works!)
