About the book...
New York Times bestselling author Mariah Stewart returns to the cherished Maryland shores of St. Dennis with THE CHESAPEAKE BRIDE (Pocket Books; August 29, 2017; $7.99), the charming story of a jaded architect who meets the one man who could finally melt her heart—if she’s willing to let him in.

Cassidy Logan has sworn off good-looking adventurers, having just divorced the one she’d married. Now working with her father’s construction company to build ecologically friendly, historically accurate homes on the Chesapeake Bay, she’s designing them for Cannonball Island. Knowing there’s been no new construction on the island in almost one hundred years, Cass is sensitive to the heritage and history of the sparsely populated island, and has come up with plans so perfect she’s determined to buy one for herself to live in. Even the fact that Owen Parker—whom she dismisses as a lightweight and a player— seems to be everywhere she goes isn’t enough to deter her from building her dream house.

Owen is and always has been sinfully handsome and wickedly clever, a magnet for mischief as well as the girls in St. Dennis. He’s also a rolling stone, going and doing whatever appeals to him, from flying a mail plane in Alaska to working on a cattle ranch in Australia and a shrimp boat in Louisiana, to surfing and diving in Costa Rica. When an old friend offers him a job salvaging a sunken ship in the Chesapeake, Owen gladly accepts. Something’s been telling him it’s about time to head home to Cannonball Island, and a job is as good an excuse as any. He’s totally smitten with the pretty architect, but it seems he’s finally met a woman who’s immune to his charms. Sooner or later, Owen will have to face the reason why he always runs, because this time, leaving just might be harder than staying.

Owen Parker has been a man of the world for most of his life.  He finds adventure wherever the wind takes him, but something has been telling him to head to more familiar waters for some time now, and when the opportunity presents itself, he can ignore it no longer.  Good thing too because as it seems, there's another that's been a bit unsettled herself and yet is finding it harder and harder to look at Cannonball Island as simply a new work project....one, Cass Logan.  She's a smart gal with a bright future but in her mind, that doesn't include a pit-stop for matters of the heart.  Hers was trampled once upon a time and she's in no hurry to repeat the process.  Too bad...I mean, they seem to rub each other the wrong way most of the time, but sometimes a little friction goes a long way.  What begins to have potential written all over it is exponentially complicated by some unexpected news.  Will the promise of what might be turn out to be strong enough to conquer what has been?  Well if anyone knows, Ruby Carter would, but getting her to spill news that isn't hers to share would be worse than cracking a coconut with your bare hands....

This is one of my favorite Contemporary Romance series.  Though lighter on the steam, it is ginormous on the amount of heart poured into each story.  Every time I get the chance to indulge in another installment, I am once again whisked away to the shores of Chesapeake Bay, welcomed back to a community all its own, and wrapped in the attentions and affections of those who call it home.  As you read further into the series, they become like your own extended family.  From the movie stars to the innkeepers, business owners to prodigal sons, and everyone in-between, each has a part to play on the island, each carries a part of it with them wherever they go, and each can't help but heed the call of island life when it beckons.  Not even Owen Parker...

In the end, it was a wonderful, heart filled story about two people trying to make their way in life sans another, but fate having a bit more to say about it than they would like.  There's ups and downs, and everything in-between, but after all is said and done, the heart wants what it wants, and if we only listen to what its saying, we'll find out path to true happiness...just like the characters here do.    Also, the addition of "Dear Diary" pages penned by Grace add a magical touch...for we fans know that both she and Ruby Carter have "the eye", both a gift and a burden at times.  Recommended for fans of the series as well as those of the genre.  You can't go wrong when you dive in the Chesapeake Bay series....
